ProStandards Committee Update: 12/31/24

Your Professional Standards Committee has seen a very busy and productive 2024!  We’ve added five new committee members with the goal of assisting our pilots more broadly,  amid the many challenges we face.

Chief Pilot Referrals

This past year we’ve seen an increased amount of Chief Pilot referrals. What this means for our Pilot group is, instead of Section 18 meetings, the Chief Pilots have the option to refer cases to the ProStandards Committee.  Once referred, and accepted by APA 2118,  the company can no longer discipline or discuss said issue with the Pilot – so long as the ProStandards Committee is able to find a success resolution (refer ProStandards LOA). The Chief Pilot Referrals help our pilots avoid needless disciplinary hearings and ultimately provide better resolutions. This positive trend requires a commitment of respect and trust among the Chief Pilot Office and your ProStandards Committee.

Fatigue Reports

The Safety Committee has enlisted our help in resolving Fatigue Reports.  Essentially, fatigue calls may be either accepted or rejected by the Review Board but require follow up.  If follow-up is needed, the designated ProStandards representative will make the call.  This new procedure allows our Union to first address any abnormalities with fatigue reports, instead of the company – even if they are rejected.

ProStandards Instructor Committee

Our new Prostandards Instructor Committee is up and running and exists for any Check Airman or Instructor pilots who may require assistance. We recognize that pilots involved in our training department may require a different approach than one used for line pilots. With this is in mind. we have added pilots who are specifically trained in this area and now able to help those requiring assistance.   Any Check Airman or Instructor Pilots having issues should reach out to the ProStandards Committee with any questions or concerns.

A goal of the ProStandards Committee has always been to find ways to best serve our Pilot group while staying true to our core mission. With your support and trust,  we aim to continue that trend in to 2025.

Fraternally,

Your Professional Standards Committee
