Seeking Strategic Preparedness Committee Members

Duties:

The Strategic Preparedness Committee (SPC) is dedicated to ensuring that Local 2118 is fully prepared to exercise its rights under the Railway Labor Act (RLA) to conduct lawful, self-help. The SPC’s core responsibilities are for the strategic coordination and planning.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying the locations of picket lines.
  • Receiving requisite permits.
  • Develop and maintain phone tree and SMS system
  • Coordinating with internal, local, and national media campaigns.
  • Establishing picket schedules.
  • Arranging for picketer training
  • Monitoring picket lines.
  • Providing daily reports to the SPC Chair.

Significant attention to detail and communication skills are paramount to successful SPC duties. Operating within the stringent requirements of the RLA, the SPC ensures that all actions are strategic, compliant, and effectively communicate the unions position to its members, the public, and relevant stakeholders.

Description:

  • The Local is looking for 2 SPC volunteers per base (1 CA and 1 FO).
  • Communication: Effective communication skills, conveying the Local’s strategy and actions to our members, the media, and the public. Ability to discreetly and effectively assemble all members to picket locations at a moment’s notice. Maintain sensitive information that may jeopardize the strategic objectives of effective picketing and strikes.
  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational abilities and attention to detail for coordinating large-scale picketing. Effective at working with other committees within the Local, legal advisors, and external agencies. Ensuring all efforts are seamlessly executed while complying with the RLA and maintaining the Local’s strategic objectives.
  • Leadership: Inspirational leadership to guide and motivate members through extended negotiations and potential self-help periods, fostering unity and determination. Competence in managing high-pressure situations, ensuring that Local members remain focused, prepared, and resilient during all phases of the RLA process.
