Trustee Update – July 26, 2024

Allegiant Air Pilots:

As has been reported previously, I have been reviewing the conduct and activities of certain former members of the Local 2118 Executive Board, including former President Andrew Robles. As I also reported earlier this week, internal disciplinary charges against Mr. Robels for financial and other misconduct are being finalized and will be filed imminently. Those charges will be filed in accordance with Article 19 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Constitution. The charges will allege financial and other misconduct against Mr. Robles and several former Local 2118 Executive Board members, in violation of the IBT Constitution and the Local 2118 Bylaws.

On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Mr. Robles resigned his membership in the Union. Several other former Executive Board members also resigned their membership. The decision by Mr. Robles and his colleagues to abruptly resign their membership may be a tactic to avoid being called to task, judged and held accountable for their actions by their fellow Allegiant Air pilots. Their resignation of membership does not immunize or prevent them from being held accountable to the Allegiant pilots they had been elected to represent. Even if their resignation did enable them to avoid accountability to their fellow Allegiant Air pilots through the internal disciplinary process, they could still face scrutiny by the United States Department of Justice and the United States Department of Labor, as well as the federal courts.

Upon their resignations from membership, Mr. Robles and his colleagues lost all rights and privileges of membership in the Union, including running for and holding Union office, voting in Union elections, participating in Union meetings and voting on proposed collective bargaining agreements. Again, however, their resignations do not shield them from responsibility for their actions while serving as members and officers of Local 2118. Accordingly, as Temporary Trustee, I will move forward with the filing and processing of internal disciplinary charges. Mr. Robles and his colleagues will receive notice of the charges against them and their due process, including the opportunity to appear in person to defend their actions before a hearing panel and present their defenses in front of Local 2118 members.
